Good morning!

Batter up! This week, along with the Seattle Mariners Moose, we celebrated the grand opening of WIFFCO Field. Located at Kent Memorial Park (850 Central Ave N), it is the only Wiffle Ball, Inc. sanctioned field in Washington. The field is already getting great use by kids and adults alike. We are even considering a WIFFLE ball league next year. You can read more about it here.

Kent Cornucopia (Lunaropia) Days, July 12-14

This weekend is Kent Cornucopia Days, hosted by the Kent Lions Club. It starts Friday at 10 a.m. and goes through Sunday at 5 p.m. Cornucopia Days is South King County’s biggest street fair, and draws people from around the region for shopping, live entertainment, food courts, kids’ activities, dragon boat races, the Cornucopia Cup soccer tournament, Kent Cornucopia 5K Fun Run, and the Grand Parade. I am excited to have the honor of crowning Miss Cornucopia at 2 p.m. Friday and participating in the parade on Sunday at 1 p.m.

This year, the theme of Kent Cornucopia Days is Lunaropia. It is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, and to the Lunar Rover which was built at the Boeing Space Center in Kent. The Lunar Rover was used on the Apollo 15, 16 and 17 missions. The parade grand marshals this year are Lunar Rover alumni. I want to extend a huge thank you to the Kent Lions Club for all their hard work. It takes so much work to put Cornucopia Days together, and it absolutely would not happen without the dedication of the Kent Lions. I hope you will join in the fun! Your Vote is Your Voice

Voter guides and ballots will be mailed to registered voters next week for the August 6 primary election. This year, there are four Kent City Council positions up for re-election, and three of those races have primaries. You can learn more about the candidates and what issues are important to them in this video link. The top two for each position will advance to the November election.
