City of Kenmore Awarded $2.1 Million in Grant Funding for New Sidewalks

 

KENMORE, Wash. (March 25, 2015) – The City of Kenmore was recently awarded $2.165 million in grant funding by the Puget Sound Regional Council, King County, Washington State Department of Transportation, and the State Transportation Improvement Board for new sidewalks.

 

At their February 23 meeting, the Kenmore City Council amended the Capital Improvement Program to add the new sidewalk projects and allocate the grant’s local match requirement of $556,000. City funding for the new sidewalk projects is dedicated from the Street Fund and Strategic Opportunities Fund. The new sidewalks will be constructed in phases over the next couple of years.

 

“The City continues to aggressively pursue grant funding to complete safety projects that will enhance facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists and other modes of alternative transportation,” said Mayor David Baker.

The grant for the NE 202nd Street sidewalk project is secured pending State Legislature approval this year. The City applied but was not successful in securing grant funding for sidewalks along NE 155th Street between Inglemoor High School and Moorlands Elementary and also 68th Avenue NE between NE 170th Street and the Sammamish River.
