Kenmore Farmers Market Kicks off June 7 with New Vendors and Expanded Food Access Programs

KENMORE, Wash. –The Kenmore Farmers Market is kicking off its second season on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. The market will be held on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. during the months of June, July, and August on NE 181st Street next to Kenmore’s Town Square between 68th Avenue NE & 67th Avenue NE. The market will host a variety of local vendors with a focus on sustainably grown produce.

The 2023 Farmers Market will welcome back favorite local vendors from last summer such as Big Chair Bakery, KDJ’s the Bakerie, and Boaz Coffee, and is excited to include new vendors this year like Good for Chocolate, Delfino’s Chicago Style Pizza, and Theary Flowers and Produce, to name a few. The Kenmore Farmers Market website includes a vendor roster listing that shows which vendors will be at the market each week.

New this year, the Farmers Market will be offering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by accepting Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) at qualifying vendors. EBT cards can be exchanged for wooden tokens, which can then be used to purchase items at growers and processed food vendors. Two other Farmers Market Nutrition Programs (FMNP) will also be accepted at the market this year, WIC and Senior FMNP, which are transitioning to electronic benefits with an easy QR code option for payment. The WIC and FMNP program served over 62,000 participants in 2022, helping bring nearly $2 million in benefits to lower income seniors and families.

Finally, the Cash Value Benefits (CVB) that have been a part of the Food Access Programs since 2018 will now be available for purchasing fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, with qualifying vendors. This is one more way to get healthy whole foods into lower income families’ grocery bags.

“I have been attending any and all of the farmers markets since I first arrived in Washington a decade ago,” said City of Kenmore Market Manager Rebecca Lucero. “There are few things in life more exciting than a freshly harvested, hand-picked stone fruit, heirloom tomato or snap pea in the summertime! Knowing that someone who is really passionate about what they grow, create, and sell is standing behind every product found at the market is true transparency in an ever-globalized market. It creates a sense of belonging to a community and builds trust with your food growers, who eventually become your friends. I look forward to seeing you at the Kenmore Farmers Market!”

Access and patronage for nearby businesses will be maintained and parking will be available for market shoppers at City Hall. City of Kenmore staff are planning, operating, and managing the market with guidance from experts in the industry.
