West Sammamish River Bridge Project

Lanes reopening soon, but there’s still work to be done

Before the end of the year, you’ll see the southbound (west side) lanes of the bridge reopen. We hope you enjoy driving on your new bridge! While the bridge deck is complete, there is still much to be done over the next year to finish up the project. You will continue to experience lane shifts and restrictions while crews work on installing utilities, both above and below the bridge, bicycle lanes, and the overlook and pedestrian walkway on the west side of the bridge. Sign up for email updates at kenmoreconstruction.com.

A friendly reminder that the speed limit will remain 25 MPH through the work zone for the safety of the public and construction team. This speed limit applies 24/7 in both directions regardless of lane restrictions. Please drive safely and be aware of bicyclists sharing the roadway and construction crews nearby.

Automated Photo Enforcement

City Council Considers Automated Photo Enforcement at a Red Lights and in School Zones

The City of Kenmore is working on a proposal for an automated photo enforcement program that would be designed and implemented by the engineering department in 2022. The program would be limited to issuing fines for red light violations and school-zone speeding violations per Washington State law. Three sites for photo enforcement are being evaluated based on the potential safety benefits and revenue from fines issued by the program will support the City’s traffic safety and pavement preservation programs. This approach ensures road upkeep costs are shared with drivers who travel through Kenmore, not just Kenmore residents. City Council will be discussing automated photo enforcement at the upcoming November and December meetings.

Log Boom Park Waterfront Access & Viewing Project Update:

This month, the concrete path, stairs and ADA access ramp to the beach are being completed. The artist, Jennifer Dixon’s concrete stamps and wood inspired board forms are incorporated. The gravel path through the western portion of the park is almost completed. The boat rental building will also start taking shape with the installation of the footings and walls. Mid-November also begins the in-water installation of the underwater gravel that forms the wading beach access area on Lake Washington. A turbidity boom will be placed in Lake Washington to protect against debris migration. Construction is scheduled to continue through spring 2022. Find project updates: www.kenmorewa.gov/WWLB.

Juanita Dr Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvements Project Update

Work has moved south!

Construction activities have begun in the southern segment of the project area, between NE 153rd Pl and NE 143rd St! Project improvements in the southern end of the corridor will look similar to those in the northern end and will include new sidewalks, bike lanes, stormwater improvements and much more. Construction activities on Juanita Dr. NE between NE 153rd Pl and NE 170th St have progressed over the last several months, including building new sidewalks and curb ramps along both sides of the street, and installing the new drainage system that will better manage stormwater runoff.

Construction completion is now estimated to be Summer 2022 due to unforeseen issues including contractor staffing, utility conflict delays, and pandemic impacts. The City understands that for those living and traveling along Juanita Drive, this has not been easy -- but hang in there! It will be worth it in the end with buffered bike lanes, new sidewalk, and landscaping, lighting and safety improvements. Thank you for your continued patience as construction presses on into the new year. Find project updates: kenmoreconstruction.com
