Asian Heritage Month 2021 Banner

May 2021 is Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month in Kenmore

Kenmore City Council proclaimed May 2021 as Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month throughout the City of Kenmore. The proclamation, which recognizes that the AANHPI community accounts for nearly 11% of Kenmore’s resident population, acknowledges Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders and their invaluable force in shaping our community and the nation, despite facing ongoing systemic barriers and social injustices. The City is proud to celebrate the vibrant diversity of cultures, languages, and religions of the AANHPI community and is committed to standing against increasing rates of anti-Asian harassment and violence.

Find out ways to participate and celebrate, and learn more about Asian/Pacific American heritage with this resource guide developed by the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs or visit asianpacificheritage.gov for National Archives, artwork and other tributes.

WSRBP bannerGirder Delivery

Starting at 3:00 AM Tuesday May 11, 2021 four more tub girders were placed on south end of the bridge. A girder is a beam that runs parallel to the roadway and safely transfers weight onto the bridge columns. Crews were finished setting these four girders by 7:00 AM. Three of the five spans (with four girders each) are now set! The last two spans will be done during the in-water work or ‘fish window’. May and June construction activities will include preparing for the in-water work later this summer and concrete pours for the portions of the deck that are built. Stay up-to-date and sign up for project updates at www.kenmoreconstruction.com.

CAP banner

In April Kenmore City Council approved the draft Engagement Plan of the Climate Action Plan (CAP). The Engagement Plan will incorporate online meetings, workshops, “pop-up events”, and surveys, with the goal of engaging residents from a wide range of demographic sectors, including those that traditionally may be underrepresented in these planning processes. Developing a CAP and promoting environmental stewardship is the 2nd priority for City Council in 2021-2022. The CAP will establish actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and propose strategies that increase Kenmore's ability to adapt to upcoming climate impacts.

The American Rescue Plan Act

The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law earlier this year and includes $350 billion for state and local governments. Kenmore will receive a direct distribution of $2.5 million this year and $2.5 million next year. This one-time money can be spent on helping our residents and businesses recover from the pandemic as well as capital projects and programs that will help position the community well for the post-covid era.  The Kenmore City Council will be discussing this federal funding at the May 24, 2021 City Council meeting.
