Construction Update: West Sammamish River Bridge Replacement Project

Construction continues on the West Sammamish River Bridge Replacement project, and workers are making use of the quieter roads during this time while following Public Health safety measures. Utility relocation work on the bridge is underway and the sidewalk on the west side is currently closed. The crew has been building a berm and landing area for the crawler crane that is due to be set up soon. The berm is one of many Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control (TESC) conditions mandated by environmental permits and it will provide a barrier and protection against pollutants entering the river from crane activities.

The speed limit through the construction area has been reduced to 25mph. Please drive carefully and watch for pedestrians and workers.

Visit kenmoreconstruction.com for additional information and to sign up for project updates.

Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Plan Approved by Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office

In early March, the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office approved the City’s 2020 Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Plan. The Plan provides a policy framework for future development of the City’s parks system, recreation facilities and programs over the next 20 years. This approval ensures the City’s ongoing eligibility for State grants to implement the Plan.

Development of the PROS Plan occurred over nearly a year—first in front of the Planning Commission and more recently in front of the City Council which approved the Plan on February 24. Public involvement was key to identifying the goals, policies and recommendations of the Plan. A statistically valid community survey, an informal survey and a public open house were some of the opportunities for public input.

The following seven goals represent the direction that Kenmore strives towards for the park, open space and recreation system:
1. Provide waterfront access
2. Provide safe routes to park, recreation and open space facilities
3. Preserve, restore, maintain and enhance built and natural environments to ensure quality recreational opportunities exist.
4. Create a balance of passive and active recreation opportunities in parks
5. Provide equitable opportunities for diverse and affordable arts and recreation programs and community and cultural events.
6. Engage the community in parks, recreation and open space decisions and activities
7. Create a financially sustainable parks and recreation system through partnerships and stewardship.

census2020

2020 Census is Now Live – Be Counted!

You should have recently received your first notice by mail with instructions on how to complete the 2020 census. The census questionnaire asks nine questions about your household, including questions on number of people living there, ages, and other demographic information. Please remember to count everyone who resides in your household, regardless of age. There are NO questions about citizenship or immigration status, and it is illegal for the Census Bureau or its employees to share your information with your landlord, law enforcement, other agencies or jurisdictions, or anyone else. The answers you provide are used only to produce statistics.

Counting people through the census is how funding is distributed where it’s needed—for things like buses, hospitals, schools, and roads—and determines how many political representatives communities have for the next decade. These are real things that can affect and benefit our community!

You can complete the census 3 ways:
