Join us Tonight for National Night Out
Come meet your local police officers and neighbors at the annual National Night Out Against Crime TONIGHT, Tuesday, August 1 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Kenmore City Hall. The Kenmore Police Department invites you to join them for a free barbecue with hot dogs and hamburgers, learn tips on home and personal safety, and enjoy other activities.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Last Day to Return Ballots
Make sure to drop off your ballots by tonight, Tuesday, August 1 at 8:00 p.m. Kenmore City Hall has a 24-hour ballot drop box located on the west side of the building. The drop box will remain in Kenmore throughout the general election in November.
Bring your friends, family and neighbors to Kenmore Camera, 6708 NE 181st St. on Saturday, August 5, at 10:00 a.m. to compete in a one-day photo contest open to all ages and skill levels.
Presented by the Kenmore Heritage Society, prizes will be awarded for the most original, appealing, and creating entry in each of six mystery categories,which will be announced the morning of the contest.
One of last year's winners was Peggy Mundy with her fun interpretation of the category "Only in Kenmore".
The Kenmore City
Council invites citizens to Coffee with Council on Monday, August 7, at 7:30 a.m. and Saturday, August 19 at 8:00 p.m. We will announce the locations of the meetings later this week, as Diva Espresso in the Hangar community building is close to opening. Citizens
are encouraged to attend these informal sessions to ask questions, discuss
issues and offer suggestions on any topic of interest. Take advantage of
this great opportunity and get to know your City Council.
'Backpacks for Kids' Now Through August 10
Help
fill backpacks with school supplies for students experiencing need in our
community. Now in its 18th year, the 'Backpacks for Kids' Program hosted by
the Northshore Schools Foundation has helped thousands of students be
prepared to start the year. You can drop off supplies at one of dozens of
collection sites across the Northshore region, including Kenmore City Hall. Or,
bring your donations to Kenmore’s Movies @ the Square on August 9.
Kenmore Play Day is an events that incorporates Kenmore’s health, fitness, and play providers to provide an event with fun family activities, fitness education, and information to connect families with recreation and play opportunities within Kenmore. On Saturday, August 12, from 11 - 2:00 p.m., join us at Rhododendron Park, 6910 NE 170th St, for games, activities, drills, demonstrations, face-painting, and much more!
Free Day to Visit Washington State Parks August 25
To
celebrate National Parks Service's 101st birthday, Friday, August 25 will be a free
day at Washington State Parks. Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass
to visit state parks. Free days apply only to day-use access by vehicle,
not overnight stays or rented facilities.
In
Kenmore, this means you can discover Saint Edward State Park for free, or visit
the neighboring Bridle Trails, and Lake Sammamish State Park.
Join
us for lunch! The Northshore YMCA is providing FREE summer lunches for children
18 and under weekdays, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., now through August 30 at
Kenmore City Hall, 18120 68th Avenue NE. All children are welcomed to come
enjoy lunch, engage in activities and meet new friends.
Put your dancing shoes on and celebrate the 15th annual Kenmore Summer Concert Series. These free community events run for six consecutive Thursdays starting July 6 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Saint Edward State Park, 14445 Juanita Drive NE.
On August 3, join us for Kaumakaiwa Kanaka’ole, a global artist whose genre-crossing work strives to “prompt the Native into action and engage our psyche.” Her work draws directly from ancestral memory and hula practice, with roots in chant that transforms to melody. Grounded in the traditions of hula and ha’a, the concert includes choreographic performances by Halau Hula O Hapualani.
Parking for the concert is FREE. A Washington State Parks Discover Pass
will not be required to park in the designated concert parking area starting at
4:30 p.m.
Concert-goers
are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic dinners to share a
special summer night under the open sky. Food vendors will also be on-site
throughout the series. Alcohol is not permitted. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are
welcome to join the festivities.
The last performance of the Kenmore Concert Series will include hard-grooving soul artist Grace Love on August 10.
Discover Arts, Food and More at the Kenmore Community Market Thursdays

Park Northshore Church is hosting a weekly community market that services
neighbors in Kenmore and surrounding communities with goodies from local
farmers, crafters, food trucks, and artisans now through August 31. The market takes place at the
church parking lot, 18737 68th Avenue NE, Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. -
8:00 p.m. There is ample parking on-site.
Movies @ the Square Continues with La La Land August 9
Movies @ the Square is Kenmore's new popular summer movie series
that features family-friendly favorites shown on a large inflatable screen
outdoors at the new Town Square, 6728 NE 181st Street. Food trucks and
preshow entertainment begin at 7:30 p.m. and movies will begin at dusk.
Bring a blanket or low-back chair and cozy up under the stars for this summer’s
biggest hits. Alcohol is not permitted.

Learn to Skateboard this Summer!
This
is the summer to learn how to skate or learn new tricks! Register for
the Skate Like A Girl Skate Camp at Jack V.
Crawford Skate Court on August 21 - 25 or August 28 -
September 1. This coed camp is geared toward children ages 5-12 at all level of
abilities from completely new to skateboarding to advanced.
Skyhawks
has started their 2017 lineup of summer sports camps at Rhododendron Park!
Skyhawks offers a broad range of sports programming and camp formats for ages 4
to 14, so you are sure to find something that meets your family’s needs.
