YMCA Summer Lunch Program at City Hall
Join
us for lunch! The Northshore YMCA is providing FREE summer lunches for children
18 and under weekdays, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., from July 6 through August 30 at
Kenmore City Hall, 18120 68th Avenue NE. All children are welcomed to come
enjoy lunch, engage in activities and meet new friends.
Kenmore
is excited to host Pianos in the Park! From July 15 - 30, you can find 11
pianos placed across King County, including Kenmore’s Town Square. Come view,
play, or listen to others play a piano provided by the Pianos in the Park
program, a public art and event series using the power of music to get us
out to discover parks, connect with people and have fun. Emma Russell, pictured, is the artist decorating Kenmore's piano.
Help
“Feed the Need” by donating food, money or purchase a premade bag at Kenmore
Grocery Outlet during the month of July. All proceeds go to support the food
bank of Cedar Park Northshore Church in Kenmore. Let’s surpass last year’s
collection of $3,500 in food and cash donations.
If you would like to donate food items or toys
throughout the year, the Cedar Park Northshore Church is open to donations
Sundays, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and during regular business hours.
Backpacks for Kids July 10 - August 10
Help
fill backpacks with school supplies for students experiencing need in our
community. Now in its 18th year, the Backpacks for Kids Program hosted by
the Northshore Schools Foundation has helped thousands of students be
prepared to start the year. You can drop off supplies at one of dozens of
collection sites across the Northshore region, including Kenmore City Hall. Or,
bring your donations to Kenmore’s Movies @ the Square on August 9.
Renovations
to Moorlands Park are underway! Improvements include upgrades to the athletic
field and playground, new picnic shelter, perimeter path, and landscaping.
Construction started earlier this week and is estimated to take six months. The
park will be closed during construction.
Moorlands
Park was first established as a neighborhood park in the 1940s. It was
transferred to the city from King County Parks in 2002 following Kenmore’s
incorporation.This renovation project is part of the City's Park Master Plan
that was approved in 2006. The design was finalized following additional
community input in 2016.
The
68th Avenue NE and NE 202nd Street corridor is a key pedestrian safety corridor
that offers a direct access route to Kenmore Middle School. The upcoming
improvements along this section of NE 202nd Street will significantly
enhance pedestrian access and safety for all users especially the students
walking to and from Kenmore Middle School.
Improvements
will consist of a new sidewalk along the south side of NE 202nd Street
between NE 201st Place and 66th Avenue NE and sidewalk along both sides of
the street on 66th Avenue NE between NE 202nd Street and Kenmore Middle
School. A planting strip will also be installed between the
new sidewalk and the street (except the east side of 66th Avenue).
Discover Arts, Food and More at the Kenmore Community Market Thursdays
Now through August
Cedar
Park Northshore Church is hosting a weekly community market that services
neighbors in Kenmore and surrounding communities with goodies from local
farmers, crafters, food trucks, and artisans. The market takes place at the
church parking lot, 18737 68th Avenue NE, Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. -
8:00 p.m., now through August 31. There is ample parking at the church.
You
are invited to participate in the City’s free guided nature walks at Wallace
Swamp Creek Park. On the first Monday of each month June through October,
a volunteer parks steward will host a 1.5 - 2 hour-long tour and explore two
miles of paved and primitive trails through the 25-acre park.
Tours
start at 9:00 a.m. at the kiosk at Wallace Swamp Creek Park parking lot, 19851
73rd Avenue NE. Participants under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by
a parent.
Watch
the night sky light up and have a fun-filled Fourth of July! The Kenmore
Fireworks Show presented by Frank Lumber blasts off at 10:00 p.m. from the Log
Boom Park pier, 17415 61st Avenue NE. Prior to the fireworks show, join in the
festivities with fun activities and food vendors from 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
The event is free and all you need to bring is a blanket or chair!
As
a reminder, personal fireworks are prohibited in Kenmore city limits.
Kenmore Business Alliance Monthly Meeting July 6
Come
network and get to know your local businesses at the Kenmore Business
Alliance meeting on Thursday, July 6, from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
at Kenmore City Hall. Stop by and meet up with local business people
and hear the latest on what's happening in your city! Feel free to bring
marketing materials.
15th Annual Kenmore Summer Concert Series Returns July 6
Put
your dancing shoes on and celebrate the 15th annual Kenmore Summer Concert
Series. These free community events run for six consecutive Thursdays starting
July 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Saint Edward State Park, 14445 Juanita Drive
NE. Parking for these events are FREE. A Washington State Parks Discover Pass
will not be required to park in the designated concert parking area starting at
4:30 p.m.
Concert-goers
are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic dinners to share a
special summer night under the open sky. Food vendors will also be on-site
throughout the series. Alcohol is not permitted. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are
welcome to join the festivities.

Meet a Kenmore Police Officer July 8
Join Chief Sether at the Kenmore Library, 6531 NE 181st Street, on Saturday, July 8, from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. to learn about police services in the community, ask questions, and learn how to stay safe.
On Saturday, July 8, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., join us for an evening of live music hosted by Student Music Initiatives and the City of Kenmore at the new Kenmore Town Square! Performances will be presented by youth musicians such as the Jackson Cotugno Trio, Coyote Lovely, Preston Lee Quartet, and A&B. Several local food trucks will also be at the venue.
Proceeds from this benefit concert will support the Northshore YMCA's Summer Lunch Program, providing local families and students in need with meals over the summer. Admission to the event is free, but all visitors are encouraged to donate with a suggested contribution of $10.
Movies @ the Square Continues July 12
Our
first movie showing at Town Square was a hit! Thank you all for participating
in Kenmore's new community event. Movies @ the Square is a summer movie series
that will feature family-friendly favorites shown on a large inflatable screen
outdoors at the new Kenmore Town Square, 6728 NE 181st Street. Food trucks and
preshow entertainment will begin at 7:30 p.m. and movies will begin at dusk.
Bring a blanket or low-back chair and cozy up under the stars for this summer’s
biggest hits. Alcohol is not permitted.

Coffee with Council July 15
The Kenmore City Council invites citizens to
Coffee with Council Saturday, July 15, at 8:00 a.m. at Starbucks, 7750 NE
Bothell Way. Please note, Coffee with Council on Monday, July 3 is canceled.
Citizens are encouraged to attend these informal sessions to ask questions,
discuss issues and offer suggestions on any topic of interest. Take
advantage of this great opportunity and get to know your City Council.
NE 181st Street Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony July 17
Kenmore is on the road to being more walk- and
bike-friendly! Join us in celebrating the completion of the new sidewalks along
NE 181st Street between 68th and 73rd Avenues NE in downtown Kenmore with
a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 17 at 1:30 p.m. Improvements include
sidewalks on both sides of the street, the addition of street lighting, a
Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon, and more. Attendees will gather near the new
pedestrian crosswalk behind Safeway to hear remarks from Mayor David Baker and
others.
Learn to Skateboard this Summer!
This
is the summer to learn how to skate or learn new tricks! Register for
the Skate Like A Girl Skate Camp at Jack V.
Crawford Skate Court on July 5 - 7, August 21 - 25 or August 28 -
September 1. This coed camp is geared toward children ages 5-12 at all level of
abilities from completely new to skateboarding to advanced.

has started their 2017 lineup of summer sports camps at Rhododendron Park!
Skyhawks offers a broad range of sports programming and camp formats for ages 4
to 14, so you are sure to find something that meets your family’s needs.
