Kenmore Recognized as 2017 Playful City USA Community
Kenmore is being honored with a 2017 Playful City USA designation for the eighth year in a row. The national recognition program Kaboom! honors cities and towns across the country for making their cities more playable. Kenmore is one of four cities in the state of Washington along with Auburn, Mercer Island and Mountlake Terrace recognized as a Playful City in 2017.
Kenmore City Council recognized Kenmore city staff for their efforts in achieving the highest level of the “Complete Streets” Award granted by the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board. The City was nominated by the Washington State Department of Transportation and Washington State Department of Commerce for the award. Kenmore is the smallest of only six cities in Washington to receive the maximum award of $500,000 which will be used towards sidewalk projects.
The City has begun the construction of a culvert replacement project to eliminate flooding caused by Little Swamp Creek at NE 192nd St, just east of 73rd Ave. Work includes removal of the existing metal pipe that carries Little
Swamp Creek across NE 192nd St., construction of a new
fish-passable concrete box culvert, required utility relocation,
road reconstruction, and critical areas mitigation. Full construction activities are anticipated to last through fall, with traffic impacts expected on NE 192nd St.
In June, the City will install signage at Log Boom Park that restricts all parking spaces to 4-hours maximum. The 4-hour limit was chosen to allow sufficient time for recreational activities and to restrict commuter parking. Parking time limits will be enforced.
