Winter Bicycle Challenge

The Annual Challenge Returns February 1-28

Intercity Transit's Winter Bicycle Challenge (WBC) encourages all Thurston County residents to bike for any reason in any season! This event is always free, fun, and open to people of all ages- make it a family affair! Bicycling outdoors is a fantastic way to exercise, explore your community, and travel more sustainably. In addition to all of these usual benefits of biking, during the WBC, you can also win prizes! Prizes include exciting bike items such as: NiteRider front and rear lights, bike bags from Oso Supply Co., reflectors from Visto Cycling, SKS fenders, accessories from Portland Design Works, and more!

Throughout the month of February, we'll have awesome prize drawings each week, plus a bonus drawing at the end of the month for everyone who logs rides on 10 days or more in February. Please snap some photos and tag us with #WinterBicycleChallenge or @WalkNRollIT on Instagram and Facebook so we can see what you're up to! And please follow Walk N Roll on social media so you don't miss a thing.

Biking in Winter

How to Participate

1. First, make sure you have created an account on the BCC website. Ride individually or with a team!

2. Log in and enter the miles you ride each day in the "Log a Ride" box throughout February. Miles biked can be for any reason- commuting, heading to school, running errands, or recreating.

3. Check your email and the website throughout the month for event updates and information on prize drawings! All prizes will be mailed to recipients in early March.

Bike Safely

Winter poses more challenges and risks for biking than other seasons. We don't recommend biking when there are snowy or icy conditions on our local roads and trails. That is a wonderful time to ride the bus or rest up for the next ride! Make sure you're prepared and don't exceed your capabilities. For some additional guidance, check out our article on winter bike commuting tips

To ensure that your bike is in working order and that you are prepared to tackle mechanical issues when they arise, consider dropping by the Walk N Roll Educational Bike Shop for a class! View the Walk N Roll calendar for upcoming events*.

*Note that some events do require pre-registration as they have limited capacity.
