Thanks to our well-attended summer Earn-A-Bike program, our stock of smaller bikes has dwindled. Our next round of classes will take place this fall, and we need donations of adult or youth bikes that fit riders 4’10”-5’6”. Bike (wheel sizes 24” and larger) donations can be dropped off at the Walk N Roll Bike Shop Saturdays from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or Wednesdays from 1 - 5 p.m. For our bike shop location and information on how to find us, please visit our website. Thank you for helping more students learn about riding bicycles for sustainable transportation and fun!

Walking and rolling to school is a great way for youth to practice pedestrian and bicycle safety skills while building physical activity into their day. When walking to school, choosing a safe route is important. School Walking Route Maps can help you plan a safe route. Maps suggest routes with sidewalks, slow speeds and crosswalks. Check to see if your school has a School Walking Route Map.

Summer is coming to an end and students are returning to school. Follow these tips to help keep our school zones safe for all students:
-
Be prepared for congestion when traveling through school zones and, if possible, adjust your route to avoid them.
-
Slow down! The speed limit in school zones is 20 miles per hour.
-
Stop for pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections.
-
Watch out for school crossing guards and obey their signals.
-
Stop for school buses that are loading and unloading students.
-
Be extra cautious around children, they are still learning how to be safe pedestrians and bicyclists.
If you plan to drop-off and pick-up a student, here are few extra tips to keep in mind:
-
Know and follow your school’s drop-off and pick-up procedures.
-
Don't double park or block bike lanes or cross walks.
-
Help improve the air quality around your school by turning your car off while you wait.
-
Consider reducing traffic congestion around the school by carpooling or parking at least a half mile away and walking to school.
