2025 CPWI Workforce Survey Report Now Available
In 2025, a group workgroup of Coalition Coordinators, and representatives from CBOs and ESDs launched the first-ever CPWI Workforce Survey. This group, an independent workgroup of the CPWI Advisory Committee, wanted to identify factors that increase job satisfaction and equity for Coalition Coordinators within CPWI, as well as identifying job-specific challenges within the role. The Workforce Subcommittee will be presenting the results of this survey at the 2026 Prevention Summit in Tacoma, WA. You're invited to review this report and come to the session with insights, ideas, questions, and thoughts on next steps to improve the CPWI workforce.
Attend a listening session to help shape youth and young adult prevention campaigns
HCA and its creative agency, DH, are hosting a series of listening sessions October 6-8, 2026, to inform a revamped statewide prevention campaign focused on substance use prevention—specifically alcohol and cannabis—and wellness for youth and young adults in Washington.
The sessions are open to prevention coalition partners, Tribal prevention partners, community-based organizations, and other prevention/behavioral health professionals.

You’re invited to participate in a one-hour virtual workshop to provide feedback on new resources designed to promote seatbelt use and driver safety.

This research is being conducted for the Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program (BTSCRP) of the Transportation Research Board, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Washington Traffic Safety Commission seeking Trucking Safety and Education Council member
The Washington Traffic Safety Commission is recruiting a member to serve on the new Trucking Safety and Education Council (TSEC).
The council will bring together public and private partners to recommend programs and projects that improve commercial truck safety, training, compliance, research, and public education.
Applications are due October 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Applicants must submit an online application, three references, a resume, and a letter of interest. Learn more and apply.

ADAI publishes blog on Kratom and 7-OH
The University of Washington Addictions, Drug & Alcohol Institute (ADAI) has published a blog discussing kratom and 7-OH.
Highlights include:
- Compounds in kratom, including 7-OH, are opioids that have been widely available and legal to purchase in most of Washington State.
- On August 26, 2026, the DEA made the sale and possession of three 7-OH related compounds by the general public illegal.
- These substances carry the risk of overdose, physical dependence, and use disorder.
- People use these substances for many different reasons; talk to your healthcare provider about what benefits and concerns you are having.

Free CRAFT Implementation Training for SUD providers
Health Care Authority (HCA) is offering a free CRAFT Implementation Training November 5-6, 2026 for SUD providers and mental health professionals interested in adding evidence-based family and caregiver support to their programs.
CRAFT (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) equips facilitators to lead groups for families and caregivers impacted by substance use disorder.

Alcohol Action Network publishes new alcohol policy surveillance platform
A new Alcohol Policy Surveillance Platform is now available from the Alcohol Action Network. The interactive tool allows users to explore and compare state alcohol regulatory systems across licensing, enforcement, and adjudication, with comprehensive state profiles.
The platform seeks to support those interested in understanding and engaging with alcohol and enforcement regulatory systems. Explore the platform to learn more.
YCCTPP Community and Priority Populations Grant Update
The Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Program (YCCTPP) is temporarily pausing the release of the Community and Priority Populations Grant. This allows the program to incorporate feedback, address state and federal funding changes, and other issues or questions that arise. While there is not a time frame for how long this pause will last, it is not expected to be lengthy.

Join the 2026 HIDTA Prevention Summit
High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) is hosting a virtual Prevention Summit on October 27 from 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific.
The purpose of this year's Summit is to equip communities with primary prevention strategies and tools to prevent substance use before it starts, from childhood through age 25, by understanding the developing brain, strengthening protective factors, and reinforcing a drug-free lifestyle at home, in school, in the community, on campus, at work, and online.
