Reminder: August Prevention Provider Meeting is cancelled
As shared previously this year, the August PPM is cancelled. Please expect any pertinent information to be shared via email as needed. We will see you again at the September Annual Contractor Meeting! For more information visit the Athena Forum website.
October data book training postponed
The October Data Book training has been cancelled and is in the process of being rescheduled.
This change is due to a delay in the release of the 2026 Data Books. Rather than being available in mid-August as originally anticipated, our vendor has alerted us that Data Books are now expected to be received mid-October. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will continue to work with our vendor to provide this valuable resource to each of you! A new training date will be announced once it has been confirmed.

Join the next Community of Practice
We look forward to hosting the next Coalition Coordinators Community of Practice. These sessions provide a collaborative space for prevention peers to connect, share ideas, discuss common challenges, and learn from one another.

As we plan ahead for calendar year 2027, we’re evaluating whether to continue offering these Community of Practice meetings. Attendance and participation are an important part of that assessment, so we encourage coalition coordinators to join. Your participation enriches the discussions and demonstrates the value of this offering.

Webinar: Overdose prevention campaigns introduce new materials
The Friends for Life and For Our Lives campaigns are introducing additional materials for educating teens and young adults about fentanyl and overdose prevention.
Register to attend the August 6 webinar to hear about the updates. The webinar covers:
- New Friends for Life PSAs, localizable materials, and posters designed in collaboration with Washington coalitions and high school students.
- The For Our Lives opioid and fentanyl overdose awareness program created for and by Native communities in Washington state. Made-to-order resources are available at no cost.
- The Starts with One campaign’s recently refreshed resources and information on pain management and safe medication disposal and storage.

Research study seeks parents looking to help their teens quit vaping
Researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center are enrolling teens aged 15 to 18 who currently use e-cigarettes (vaped on one or more days in the past 30 days), along with one of their parents/guardians, for a new study on youth vaping cessation. The goal is to test whether a new program can help teens quit vaping with support from their parent/guardian. Both the teen and parent/guardian will participate in the study, but their involvement will be separated.

Safe Medication Return is running two, five-minute surveys to related to program use and awareness. Please consider taking the survey, and disseminating to your networks.

NW HIDTA requests prevention proposals this October
NW HIDTA is launching a request for prevention proposals this October. You're invited to a launch webinar October 13 that will provide guidance regarding the prevention request for proposals. Registrants will also receive proposal documents and information about deadlines and expectations.
Organizations are eligible to apply if they:
- Work to prevent illicit drug use (including enhancing protective factors and reducing risk factors).
- Operate in a Northwest HIDTA county (Benton, Clark, Cowlitz, Grant, Franklin, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Spokane, Thurston, Whatcom, and Yakima).
Proposals will be due on December 11, 2026. Funding will begin on July 1, 2027 and end on June 30, 2029. Organizations can apply for a maximum of $50,000.00 per year. Contact Eliza Powell for more informmation.
Congratulations Jessica Deutsch - Ally of the Year
Please help celebrate Jessica Deutsch, who has received the 2026 Ally of The Year Award from the West Plains Safety Alliance. Jessica is Coordinator for TALK 2 Healthy Choices Coalition at Educational Service District 101. Over the past four months, Jessica has helped the Alliance in organize a luncheon for community stakeholders, and a free community event that raised over $10,000 for youth prevention programs with over 1,500 attendees. The Alliance described, “Jessica embodies the essence of servant leadership, always the first to volunteer her time and resources without seeking recognition, all in pursuit of our mission to create the safest and healthiest region for children to live, learn, and play.”
