Thank you to everyone who participated in the Coalition Leadership Institute (CLI) June 22-24! This year we had representatives from CPWI Coalitions, CPWI school based services, and other prevention professionals. As part of this year’s event, we gathered in-person at the Evergreen State College in Olympia and learned from our partners at the Washington State University and the University of Washington. We look forward to future events!

Rise in counterfeit ZYN products in Washington
Partners at the Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) have seen a rise in Zyn products intended for the European market (not approved for distribution in the US), as well as counterfeit Zyn products.
Coalitions implementing environmental scans or CANS assessments of retailers are encouraged to be mindful of these products when conducting reviews.

Creating Environmental Change: A Prevention Policy Cohort
You're invited to an exciting professional development opportunity for prevention coordinators in Washington, the Creating Environmental Change: A Prevention Policy Cohort. This virtual opportunity is hosted by SAMHSA’s HHS Region 9 and 10 Strategic Prevention and Technical Assistance Center (SPTAC) Team.
The Creating Environmental Change training plus learning community will be held virtually on Zoom over seven consecutive weeks: July 31, August 7, August 14, August 21, August 28, September 4, and September 11.

New map of US sales restrictions on flavored tobacco products
The Public Health Law Center published a map of U.S. states, cities, and counties that restrict the sale of flavored tobacco products. For local jurisdictions, it focuses on those with a population over 75,000. The map and dataset summarize whether state and local tobacco flavor restrictions policies (1) cover the entire jurisdiction, (2) prohibit menthol, (3) restrict flavors in all tobacco products, and (4) include exemptions for certain retailers.

2026 BIPOC Mental Health Toolkit now available
July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and Mental Health America's 2026 BIPOC Mental Health Toolkit is now available.
This year's toolkit is designed to help communities of color have more good days by finding moments of good despite ongoing stress, strengthening connections in trusted spaces, and supporting everyday mental health conversations. The toolkit is available in both English and Spanish.
Youth Policy Accelerator applications are open
Mental Health America’s Youth Policy Accelerator is a youth leadership program that ensures that the priorities and voices of young people are at the forefront of national mental health policy discussions. The 2026 program will equip five outstanding young adults with the skills, relationships, and experience to advance youth peer support policy.

Colfax Bulldog's PawCast Showcase
The Jennings Elementary youth leaders from Colfax recently hosted the Bulldogs PawCast Showcase, highlighting a youth-led podcast initiative focused on prevention messaging and positive peer influence. Through the podcast, youth have taken an active role in developing and sharing messages that promote healthy choices, build awareness, and encourage positive community norms among their peers.
The showcase was an outstanding success drawing 120 attendees. The strong participation demonstrated support for youth leadership and prevention efforts while providing an opportunity or students to share the wok they have been developing through the Bulldogs PawCast. Check out their materials!
