In our January 30, 2026, Benefits 24/7 stabilization update, we communicated that we had identified incorrect tobacco attestations that affected some PEBB and SEBB subscribers. The issue involved previous tobacco attestation responses that were incorrectly appearing in the system for employees who returned to eligibility in either the SEBB or PEBB program after having a break in coverage.
We’ve implemented a fix to prevent this issue from happening going forward.
Employers who saw employee accounts that were being incorrectly charged a retroactive tobacco surcharge should see a credit on their next or most recent billing statement.
If you continue to experience issues with retroactive tobacco charges for employees who had a previous eligibility period, please submit a new ticket to HCA’s Outreach & Training team.
