Tribal Consultation this week for WA's Traditional Health Care Practices waiver

Tomorrow, the Health Care Authority (HCA) will host a Tribal Consultation on Washington state’s Traditional Health Care Practices waiver. This is a five-year Section 1115 waiver available through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

If approved, the waiver would allow our state to reimburse qualifying facilities for providing traditional health care services to eligible Apple Health (Medicaid) and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) enrollees. Learn more.

Tuesday, December 16, 2025
10:30 a.m.–noon.

Attendees can attend in person, join virtually via Zoom, or call in.

Note: You must be officially chosen by your Tribal Council as an elected official or appointed representative to participate in government-to-government discussions with the state.

HCA’s main goals are to:

Listen to Tribal partners and hear their important perspectives.
Receive Tribes’ acceptance and sign-off of the waiver application before submitting to CMS.

Native voices are vital to this waiver, and we want to ensure Tribes have opportunities to provide input. The feedback we receive will help inform Washington’s waiver application — and more importantly — signal the deep value and importance of having traditional health care practices as part of Western medicine.
