The Health Care Authority’s (HCA) School and Public Employee Benefits Office of Regulatory Compliance and Oversight is conducting our first annual audit of dependent verification on behalf of the PEBB Program. This audit was designed to determine if sufficient, appropriate documentation exists to support the eligibility of dependents enrolled for benefits through the Public Employee Benefits Board (PEBB) Program, to include state agencies, higher education entities and employer groups.
The initial phase of the audit consisted of the review of available documents in Benefits 24/7. The team was able to verify eligibility for the majority of the randomly selected dependents. For the final phase of the audit, employees will be required to provide dependent verification documents for dependents that could not be verified during the initial audit phase. The inability to verify the dependents during the initial phase was due to either dependent verification documents being insufficient or not being available in Benefits 24/7 for review.
The audit is currently in the final phase.
Beginning tomorrow, HCA will mail letters requesting dependent verification documents to employees. Employees will be required to provide documentation within 30 days of the date in the letter. Instructions for providing the documents to HCA will be included in the letter. Employers that have employees who need to submit dependent verification documents will be notified by email. The email will include a list of employees along with the dependent(s) to be verified and a copy of the letter that was sent to the employee.
Please direct any questions regarding this audit to hcasebb-pebbaudit@hca.wa.gov.
