The Health Care Authority (HCA) is conducting a community health worker (CHW) landscape analysis and seeks your assistance gathering relevant data to support this initiative.
To better understand the current state and impact of CHWs, we are looking for existing datasets, reports, and research studies that cover various aspects of community health workers. We are interested in the following information:
- Number of CHWs employed
- CHW work settings
- Training and certification
- Professional development needs
How to participate
There are two ways to provide information:
- Submit relevant datasets from your organization
- Complete our brief survey to input your information
Email CHW program manager Nikki Banks with relevant datasets, reports, or information. Ensure all protected health information (PHI) is removed from data before sharing such as name, date of birth, phone number, and other personal identifying information.

How will the data collected be used?
The data will be used to identify trends, challenges, and other opportunities within the CHW workforce to identify strategies to support CHWs and inform the development and ongoing monitoring of the CHW State Plan benefit.
Will the results of the analysis be publicly available?
The results, including a comprehensive report, will be shared with relevant stakeholders and may be made publicly available to inform broader community health worker efforts.
What happens next?
HCA will use the feedback to inform approaches for implementing an Apple Health (Medicaid) CHW benefit. HCA will work with federal, state, and community partners to develop and implement the CHW benefit. This is anticipated to take about a year with a goal of having reimbursement accessible by July 1, 2025. This work will include development of the reimbursement rate under the Apple Health program.
How do I stay informed?
