Dear PEBB Medical Only Employer Groups,
This message is intended specifically for organizations currently participating in the PEBB Medical Only benefit package. We are following up on our communication from April 15, 2024, to remind you of important changes to PEBB Vision coverage that will be effective starting in 2025. The details of this message do not apply to Employer Groups participating in the Full Benefits Package.
Please note that routine vision coverage will no longer be included in PEBB medical plans effective 2025. This update requires your attention and action depending on the needs of your organization and employees. Here are three options for your consideration:
- Continue with Medical Only Coverage:
- Understand that starting in 2025, your employees will no longer have routine vision coverage included as part of their medical plan.
- You may wish to explore external vendors to provide separate vision coverage. There will be no changes to your existing PEBB contract should you choose to remain with the Medical Only plan.
Switch to the Full Benefits Package:
- Consider transitioning from the Medical Only package to the PEBB Full Benefits package, which will include new standalone vision coverage in 2025.
- For more details or to discuss this option further, please contact the Outreach & Training (O&T) team.
For groups planning to leave the PEBB Program:
- Should your group be considering an exit from the PEBB program, please ensure compliance with the exit criteria as outlined in WAC 182-08-245.
- Additionally, you can contact O&T for further guidance.
Additional Communications:
-
Initial Notification: Details on the PEBB vision coverage change will be shared with employees in our upcoming May "For Your Benefit" newsletter.
-
Ongoing Updates: Additional updates will be shared with employees in the October "For Your Benefit" newsletter and other resources during the Open Enrollment period.
Further Information:
- Detailed information about the new PEBB vision benefits will be available on our website this fall. For a preview of what the PEBB vision benefits will entail, please visit the School Employees Benefits Board Program’s vision plan comparison page.
- The PEBB vision plans will each have a network of providers in Washington State (and nationwide) that offer services like routine eye exams, eyeglass frames and lenses, progressive lenses, contact lenses, and discounts on lens enhancements like polycarbonate and photochromatic lenses and treatments like LASIK. Members may choose the plan with a network that offers services in their geographical area and that contracts with their current vision provider.
Should you have further questions or need more information, please do not hesitate to contact the Outreach & Training team via HCA Support or call us directly at 1-800-700-1555.
Thank you for your attention to this important update.
