In January 2024, a new service called Intensive Behavioral Supportive Supervision (IBSS) became available under the In Lieu of Service (ILOS) benefit. This voluntary service is administered by Managed Care Organizations (MCO) and available to all Apple Health (Medicaid) clients who meet the clinical criteria and are enrolled in Integrated Managed Care (IMC) or Behavioral Health Services Only (BHSO) coverage.
Who qualifies for IBSS services?
Apple Health clients may qualify for IBSS services if they:
- Have complex behaviors,
- Have a cognitive impairment,
- Are at high risk of institutionalization and hospitalization, and
- Require direct staffing supports to prevent harm to self or others.
What services does IBSS include?
IBSS services can include:
- In-person monitoring, redirection, diversion, cueing to prevent high risk behaviors – and staffing to support the individual’s behavior stabilization in community residential settings.
- Person-centered assistance to build skills and resiliency to support stabilized living and integration.
- Interventions that are not direct personal care.
