December is Universal Human Rights Month, a time for people around the world to join together and stand up for the rights and dignity of all people.
The month began 75 years ago when the United Nations created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights after World War II, declaring "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights." Learn more.
Our peer support team is aware of a phishing website asking for peers to pay to complete their certified peer counselor (CPC) application. HCA does not charge for CPC training, the application to become a CPC, or peer support continued education opportunities.
Please be cautious of the sites you are visiting. Visit HCA's website to complete pre-requisite peer training or to access the CPC application.

Born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana, Bertram's lived experience includes recovery from mental health crisis, religious trauma, and many other challenges. His recovery journey began in 2010 after being sent to prison for 11 years. He participated in rehabilitation programs such as Bridges to Life, Alternative to Violence, and Nonviolent Communication. |
|
|
Bertram is passionate about supporting individuals during their transition process out of prison. He has worked with Community Partnership Program and Re-entry Division Program to provide resources, mentorship, personal coaching, and employment support to those in the re-entry process.
Benjamin Schroeter, a King County Community House peer, shares a little about Bertram's impact; "I recently had the pleasure of working with Bertram Calcote, an outreach navigator with the Recovery Navigator Program. Bertram was able to, in one day, locate a co-occurring inpatient bed for one of my participants being released from jail, ensuring a continuum of care that otherwise would have been unavailable. Throughout the process he was extremely professional, responsive, and available in a way that I rarely experience. He’s definitely a Super Peer!"
