About the SBHS Program
The Washington State School-Based Health Care Services (SBHS) Program is administered by the Health Care Authority (HCA). School districts participating in the SBHS Program may receive Medicaid reimbursement for providing health care-related services to Title XIX Medicaid-eligible students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).

HCA has updated the School-Based Health Care Services (SBHS) Program Billing Guide:
SBHS Program Billing Guide (August 1, 2023 to present)
Updates to the guide include:

Signature log
- HCA no longer requires school districts to maintain a signature log
- School districts must retain previous signature logs for six years
- Providers are still required to sign treatment notes/service logs as outlined in the SBHS Program Billing Guide

Telemedicine updates
- Effective October 1, 2023, only speech/audiology, nursing, and counseling services are reimbursable when provided through telemedicine and reimbursement is limited to certain codes
- Effective October 1, 2023, occupational & physical therapy services are no longer reimbursable when provided through telemedicine
- General language clean-up and clarification

Register Today! Join CMS for a Series of Medicaid and CHIP Renewals Webinars Focused on Reaching Out to Special Populations in August 2023
Join the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Renewals webinars focused on special populations. This webinar series will provide partners with strategies to reach out to diverse communities and audiences to share information about Medicaid and CHIP renewals. Each webinar will also include a “train-the-trainer” presentation, during which CMS will walk-through a set of downloadable slides that partners can use to educate others in their communities about Medicaid and CHIP renewals. We encourage you to share this invitation among your network and help us educate organizations and the populations they serve about Medicaid and CHIP renewals. Dates:
