New report on MHAYC implementation

In 2021, the Washington State Legislature passed legislation to align Apple Health policies with best clinical practices for mental health assessments for young children (MHAYC). HCA and key partners have worked to implement this legislation over the past two years.

Recently, HCA published the MHAYC Implementation Report, which includes findings on how mental health providers are putting these new policies into practice. Key findings include:

Providers reported moderate uptake of MHAYC policies, with higher uptake of multi-session assessments and of use of the DC:0-5 than of provider travel.
Providers reported that MHAYC policies have made billing for IECMH services easier, increased provider competence in serving young children, and improved access to developmentally appropriate services.
