Attention physicians and health care professionals:

Retroactive to dates of service on and after July 1, 2022, the Health Care Authority (HCA) pays for medical respite care (MRC) for certain people. HCA has published a revised version of the Physician-Related/Health Care Professional Services Billing Guide, dated October 14, 2022.

What has changed?

HCA added a new section for MRC for people experiencing homelessness who are too ill or frail to recover from a physical illness or injury while living on the streets, but who no longer require a hospital stay. Payment for these services is authorized under Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5693 (67th Legislature, 2022 Regular Session).
