Reimbursement now available for opioid overdose reversal medication for uninsured individuals

In 2021, the Washington State Legislature passed Substitute Senate Bill 5195, which requires the Health Care Authority (HCA) to reimburse hospitals, behavioral health agencies, or pharmacies who dispense opioid overdose reversal medication to uninsured individuals by January 1, 2022.

Beginning today, providers who have dispensed opioid overdose reversal medications to uninsured individuals can access the process for reimbursement.

Providers will either need to have a ProviderOne number or a Statewide Vendor number. Providers will be able to backdate reimbursement requests to January 1, 2022.

Visit our website for instructions, reimbursement forms, and FAQs.

Please email HCA with any questions.
