Calling all health care plans: there's still time to participate in the 2022 Paying for Value survey
Through Wednesday, August 31, the Health Care Authority (HCA) is holding the annual Paying for Value survey for health care plans (also called payers). This survey is a way for us to:
- Determine plan’s participation in value-based purchasing arrangements.
- Track progress toward our statewide goal of paying for value-based care, rather than paying for volume of care.
Washington State’s goal is to have 90 percent of state-financed health care in value-based payments by the end of 2021. As of 2020, we are at 77 percent.
Who should complete the Paying for Value survey?
We are inviting all plans that offer health care coverage in Washington State to participate. The survey is designed to be filled out by an administrative leader, with only one response per organization. The deadline to complete the survey is Wednesday, August 31 at 5 p.m.
Note: we are not conducting the Paying for Value provider survey this year.
What’s value-based purchasing (VBP)?
VBP is a strategy used to improve the quality and value of health care services a person receives. VBP ensures health plans and health care providers are accountable for providing high-quality, high-value care and a satisfying patient experience.
VBP uses value-based payment, which is a payment method for providers that rewards them for the quality of health care, rather than the volume or number of patients a provider sees. (This is called fee-for-service.)
