Supportive Housing monthly topical webinar: Housing is healthcare: The multidisciplinary approach to Supportive Housing
The researchers, Dr. Hilton and Dr. Lopez, conducted an evaluation of Volunteers of America's (VOA Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho) permanent supportive housing program (PSH) that included in-depth interviews with 28 PSH residents and more than 12 staff. This research highlights VOA's multidisciplinary team model that includes close collaboration between case managers, a staff nurse and behavioral health counselors in stabilizing residents' housing and enhancing connections to health care, mental health care and other services.
Results indicate that a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach can be a successful strategy in developing strong relationships with residents that can be beneficial in stabilizing housing and securing critical services.
Training learning objectives include:
- Understand research projects in PSH programs for participant feedback
- Learn reasons for hesitant engagement of health systems
- Applicable skills and concepts to implement in direct care to reduce traumatic interactions
