Pediatric Health listserv now available
The Health Care Authority (HCA) recognizes that we historically have not had a listserv specific to pediatric policy and program updates. To ensure providers serving the pediatric population have access to updates and information relevant to their services, HCA has created a Pediatric Health topic in response to a variety of projects impacting children and youth on Apple Health.
To stay informed on the projects listed below and other topics relevant to pediatric care, subscribe to the Pediatric Health topic.
-
EPSDT periodicity expansion
Effective January 1, 2023, HCA will be implementing Apple Health Well-Child check periodicity to match the Bright Futures (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommended periodicity schedule.
-
Community Health Workers embedded in Pediatric Primary Care pilot
Legislative funds were allocated to HCA to initiate a Community Health Worker grant starting January 1, 2023. The grant will focus on supporting pediatric primary care settings in implementing and evaluating the impact of Community Health Worker services.
-
Primary Care Transformation – WA Multi-payer Primary Care Model
An ongoing project at HCA which includes pediatric primary care. The intent is to implement the model in Q1 2023. Goals include:
- Promoting and incentivizing integrated, whole-person, and team-based care
- Increasing primary care expenditures
- Implementing fiscal policy that promotes upstream interventions that reduce more expensive downstream care
-
Eat, Sleep, Console
HCA will be implementing a daily reimbursement rate for hospitals to allow birth parents to remain with their newborn. In the context of in utero exposure to a substance that may cause physiologic dependence, this model supports the ability for birth parents to provide continual care for their newborn.
-
Continuous Enrollment
HCA is in the process of submitting a 5-year Medicaid Transformation Project waiver renewal to The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The waiver renewal includes offering continuous enrollment for children birth through age five enrolled in Apple Health.
