MTP waiver renewal public comment period now open!
Today, the Health Care Authority (HCA) officially kicks off the formal public comment period for our state’s Section 1115 Medicaid demonstration waiver renewal. Washington State’s waiver is called the Medicaid Transformation Project (MTP).
Starting today, Thursday, May 12, through Monday, June 13, we are asking for feedback on our draft application. We will use feedback to refine the application that HCA will submit to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) this summer.
Who can provide public comment?
Public comment is open to anyone who would like to share feedback. We encourage health care and social service providers, Accountable Communities of Health (ACHs), Tribal Nations, Indian health care providers (IHCPs), managed care organizations, hospitals and health systems, medical associations, community-based organizations, and the public to provide input.
How can I share feedback with HCA?
During the public comment period, May 12–June 13, you can provide your feedback:
- During these virtual public hearings (no registration required):
- In an online survey
- By emailing the MTP team at medicaidtransformation@hca.wa.gov
- By mailing HCA at:

Live captioning may be available for the virtual public hearings. Communication Access Real-time Transcription (CART) services, or live closed captioning, may be available for this event, on demand. To request this accommodation, please submit a request to rachelle.alongi@hca.wa.gov as soon as possible. Where can I find more information?
Visit the MTP renewal page for more information about the renewal, including resources and links to the full draft application and its appendices. Visit the HCA website to learn more about MTP.
What’s MTP?
MTP allows our state to create and continue to develop projects, activities, and services that improve Washington’s health care system using federal Medicaid funding. All work under MTP benefits those enrolled in Apple Health (Medicaid).
Washington State is currently in the last year of the current MTP waiver, which ends December 31, 2022. If approved, the MTP renewal will begin January 1, 2023, and end December 31, 2027.
