April is Minority Health Month
Did you know that Booker T. Washington started National Negro Health Week in 1915? This expanded over the years to become National Minority Health month. Its aim is to raise awareness of the health disparities experienced by racial and ethnic minority groups, and to encourage action through health education, early detection, and control of disease complications.
The covid-19 pandemic influenced this year’s theme - Give your community a boost! - because of its disproportionate effect on communities of color.
You can participate by promoting the facts about vaccinations and booster shots, or check out these ideas from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities.
