HRSA COVID-19 Uninsured Program funding ending

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) COVID-19 Uninsured Program provided reimbursement directly to health care providers for COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccinations of uninsured individuals during the pandemic.

Due to lack of sufficient funds, the HRSA COVID-19 Uninsured Program will stop accepting claims on the following schedule:

  • Testing claims: March 22, 2022, at 8:59 p.m. PT
  • Treatment claims: March 22, 2022, at 8:59 p.m. PT
  • Vaccine administration claims: April 5, 2022, at 8:59 p.m. PT

Will eligible claims submitted by the deadline be reimbursed?

Claims submitted by the deadline for each category of service will be adjudicated and paid subject to their eligibility and the availability of funds.

Who is considered uninsured?

Anyone without health insurance, no matter their immigration status. An individual is considered uninsured if they did not have any health care coverage at the time services are rendered.

What options remain available for COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccinations for uninsured individuals?

Individuals should apply for health care coverage through Washington Healthplanfinder at wahealthplanfinder.org to see if they qualify for free or low-cost coverage through Apple Health (Medicaid).

The Alien Emergency Medical (AEM) program may cover COVID-19 testing and treatment. To learn more view the AEM testing and treatment for COVID-19 fact sheet.
