HCA to hold Q&A webinar for Cascade Care rulemaking
Early next month, the Health Care Authority (HCA) will hold a webinar on the Cascade Care Select Public Option rulemaking.
The Washington State Legislature passed Cascade Care during the 2019 legislative session, and Cascade Care became available on Washington Healthplanfinder on January 1, 2021. Senate Bill 5377, which passed in 2021, provides additional guidance for Cascade Care.

What’s the purpose of the Q&A webinar?
The goal of HCA’s rulemaking is to address how Cascade Care Select Public Option plans are available in every county, with hospital participation requirements. This webinar will allow us to hear from hospitals, health plan carriers, and others on their concerns, hesitancies, and suggestions.

We encourage anyone who is interested to attend. This webinar is geared toward:
- Hospitals

Health plan carriers (insurance plans), including those that:
- Currently offer Cascade Care in select Washington State counties
- May be interested in offering Cascade Care in the future

Cascade Care partners, including Washington Health Benefit Exchange and the Office of the Insurance Commissioner
- Anyone interested in the rulemaking process

What’s Cascade Care?
Cascade Care offers additional health insurance coverage options for Washington Healthplanfinder customers (those who purchase coverage on the individual market). Cascade Care Select Public Option plans are types of plans offered under Cascade Care that meet specific quality and value standards and requirements.
