Health Care Cost Transparency Board to appoint Advisory Committee at next meeting

Next Tuesday, April 13, the Health Care Cost Transparency Board (HCCTB) will hold its third meeting on Zoom. A significant part of this meeting is to discuss and appoint the Advisory Committee of Providers and Carriers.

This Advisory Committee will provide expert advice from the provider and carrier perspective and inform the creation of the benchmark and supporting data calls.

During this meeting, board members will also:

  • Approve the proposed HCCTB charter and operating procedures.
  • Define “total health care expenditures” (THCE).
  • Define the population for whom THCE is measured.
  • Establish criteria for choosing economic indicators, such as wage or inflation indexes, that could inform the benchmark.
  • Hear public comment.

Meeting details:
Tuesday, April 13
10 a.m.–noon
Meet on Zoom (no registration required)

Can I provide public comment or testimony?

Yes. Public comment and testimony are a crucial part of the board’s process. Each board meeting will have a designated time for public comment. If you would like to let us know in advance you’ll be speaking, please contact us at hcahcctboard@hca.wa.gov. You can also submit comments in writing at any time.

What’s the HCCTB?

Governor Inslee signed the board into law last year (House Bill 2457) with the purpose of reducing health care cost growth and increasing price transparency. Each year, Washington residents are paying more and more for their health care. In addition, rising health care prices affect how health care plans (payers) pay health care providers.
