What is the Emergency Response for Suicide Prevention Grant (ERSP)

The Health Care Authority (HCA) received funds to work with the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center (UWHMC) Behavioral Health Institute (BHI) to develop a support plan for adults who have a suicide crisis. The plan includes Peer Navigators and a tablet-based Jaspr Health app for inviduals ages 25 and older including victims of domestic violence, and suicide prevention training for behavioral health providers.

Peer navigators

Individuals who have had a suicide crisis will be connected with a Peer Navigator. The Peer Navigator is a peer support specialist who will provide caring emotional support and assistance connecting with behavioral health services, recovery supports, and develop and utilize suicide recovery plans.

Tablet-based Jaspr Health app

The tablet-based Jaspr Health app helps individuals and their providers to use the recommended evidence-based practices for suicide crisis care:

  • Comprehensive suicide assessment
  • Lethal means counseling
  • Suicide crisis safety plan
  • Psychoeducational skill building
  • Shared stories through videos from people who have lived experience with suicide recovery

A companion mobile app empowers individuals with self-help content to manage emotions and promote recovery.

Free training

Training will be provided to community, clinical service providers, and other systems serving adults that are at risk. Clinical training will include

  • Assessment of suicide risk and protective factor
  • Best practice interventions to ensure safety (including lethal means safety)
  • Treatment of suicide risk
  • Follow-up to ensure continuity of care

The training is free and meets Washington State licensure requirements for behavioral health providers

The ERSP Program is now accepting registration for the All Providers Suicide Safe prevention training.
