Apple Health providers: beware of scams claiming medical license has been suspended

The Heath Care Authority sends you this notification on behalf of the Washington Medical Commission (WMC).

The WMC is warning the public that scammers are once again posing as the Commission.

The scammers use technology to pose as the WMC by replicating the Commission’s phone number and provide the practitioner’s medical license number. In this version of the scheme, doctors are told they are being investigated for drug trafficking and need to stop practicing medicine immediately.

The WMC does not make calls such as these. Any medical license holder facing discipline receives several letters from the WMC, which include legal documents and timelines for responding.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from the Washington Medical Commission notifying you to stop practicing medicine or asking for personal information, hang up immediately and contact the Commission at 360-236-2706.
Do not trust callers who use threats to bully or frighten you. Legitimate investigators will not ask you to stop practicing medicine or for money.

If you receive a suspicious call, do not send personal information, or money, or accept that your license has been suspended and stop work. Call 360-236-2706, or email the WMC right away. You can also file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office.
