Apple Health (Medicaid) Provider Alert

Effective for dates of services on and after November 1, 2019, the Health Care Authority (HCA) published an updated Hearing Hardware Billing Guide to align with recent changes to Chapter 182-547 WAC, Hearing Aids.

What has changed?

HCA:

  • Changed definitions for the following terms: cochlear implant, hearing aids, and hearing health care professional
  • Added replacement batteries to the coverage list for clients age 21 and older
  • Changed the trial period for monaural hearing aids from 6 months to 90 days
  • Added “unable to live safely in the community with only one hearing aid” to the clinical criteria for EPA #870001552
  • Removed HCPCS code L8693 from the coverage tables
