Washington’s Section 1115 waiver amendment open for federal public comment

On March 2, Washington State submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) a request to amend its Section 1115 waiver, the Healthier Washington Medicaid Transformation. The waiver amendment is now open for federal public comment.

The public may submit comments regarding Washington’s waiver amendment to Medicaid.gov through April 12. Once the federal public comment period ends, the state and CMS will engage in conversation with the goal of approving the waiver amendment.

If approved, the waiver amendment will allow Washington to maintain and expand access to inpatient and residential Substance Use Disorder treatment, and ensure the Transformation’s STCs accurately reflect state and CMS agreement.

The Medicaid Transformation is a five-year partnership (2017-2021) between Washington and CMS. The goals of this partnership are to improve the health care system, improve the overall health of Washington’s Apple Health (Medicaid) population, and use state resources more effectively.
