Survey shows great strides in state’s value-based payment strategy

The Health Care Authority (HCA) issues an annual value-based payment (VBP) survey to track progress towards the state's paying for value goals, and to identify barriers impeding desired progress. The 2017 survey of managed care organizations and commercial payers showed the state is making progress in achieving its goal to pay for patient-centered, high quality care.

The survey showed value-based purchasing by the state at 37 percent, an increase from the 30 percent reported in the 2016 survey and ahead of established goals. Responses also showed that providers’ experience with VBP has been generally positive and that providers generally plan to increase VBP participation.
