After a
rigorous planning process, all nine Accountable Communities of Health (ACHs) have
received state approval of their Medicaid Transformation Project Plans.
The
Project Plans describe how each of the nine ACHs will transform health care in
their regions and improve the overall health of their Apple Health (Medicaid)
populations. From tackling the opioid crisis to integrating behavioral and
physical health care, these ambitious and detailed plans aim to address some of
the most pressing health issues facing communities today.
The
state’s contracted Independent Assessor, Myers and Stauffer, evaluated the
plans against specific assessment criteria and issued findings.
The state accepted the findings and issued the approvals.
Each ACH
earned their full valuation,
which triggers the release of incentive payments, and marks the beginning of
the implementation phase of the Healthier Washington Medicaid Transformation.
Marc
Provence, Director of the Office of Medicaid Transformation, heralded the
achievement of this major milestone: “I am inspired by how the ACHs and their communities have created Project Plans
that are both visionary and purposeful. Changing a statewide health
system is daunting, and much work lies ahead; but it’s important to pause to appreciate this significant accomplishment and
the progress it represents.”
The Healthier Washington Medicaid
Transformation is
a partnership between Washington State and the federal Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services. Over five years (2017-2021), this partnership intends to
improve the health care system, improve the overall health of Washington’s
Apple Health (Medicaid) population, and use state resources more effectively.
