Message to Iranian Washingtonians
The Washington State Office of Equity recognizes that many Iranian Washingtonians are following recent events affecting Iran. They are watching with deep concern, grief, and hope. For many families in our state, these developments are not distant news. They are personal. Loved ones, memories, and cultural ties connect Iranian Washingtonians to communities across Iran and the broader region.
We recognize that the Iranian diaspora holds a wide range of perspectives about what this moment represents. Some view it through the lens of a long struggle for freedom, dignity, and human rights. Others are deeply concerned about the human toll of war, the safety of civilians, and the long-term consequences of conflict. Many people are holding both hope and fear at the same time.
The Office of Equity acknowledges the complexity of these experiences. Iranian Washingtonians represent many identities, generations, religions, ethnicities, and migration stories. This diversity of perspectives reflects the richness and resilience of the Iranian community.
Our role as a state agency is not to weigh in on international political debates. Our responsibility is to uphold the values that guide Washington State. We believe in dignity, belonging, and the protection of all communities. We affirm the importance of human rights and the safety of civilians. We uplift the ability of people everywhere to live free from fear and violence.
At times of global uncertainty, we encourage care for one another. We uplift space for respectful dialogue. We want to share support for community members who may be experiencing grief, worry, or hope for the future of loved ones abroad.
To Iranian Washingtonians: your culture, history, and contributions enrich our state. You are a valued part of the fabric of Washington. You belong here.
