HB 1984, titled AN ACT Relating to vehicle and operator requirements for autonomous vehicles, has been introduced in the House of Representatives. The Office of Financial Management has identified this bill as requiring a ten-year projection of
increased cost to the taxpayers or affected fee payers.

A small but indeterminate increase is expected. This is due to an unknown number of level 3 autonomous vehicles expected to be added to the registration pool of autonomous vehicles. Level 4 and level 5 autonomous vehicles are currently included in the pilot program. The details of the self-certification fee that DOL may establish are also unknown.
