Announcing RAIN's new Executive Sponsor, Laura Watson!
RAIN warmly welcomes Laura (she/her/hers) to her new role as Executive Sponsor for the BRG and look forward to all the good work we'll do together!
Laura Watson is the director of the Washington Department of Ecology, and was appointed in 2020 by Governor Jay Inslee to protect the state’s air, land, water and climate.
Before Ecology, she worked on environmental issues with the Attorney General’s Office for over two decades.
Under Laura’s leadership, Ecology has begun implementing landmark climate and environmental justice policies. In 2021, Laura launched the agency’s new Office of Equity and Environmental Justice – an office dedicated to ensuring environmental laws protect everyone equally, and that the health and economic impacts of past pollution and toxic contamination are identified and addressed. Laura also created the position of Organizational Equity Manager to focus on creating a sense of belonging for every member of Ecology’s workforce and to address workplace issues that create barriers or interfere with team members’ sense of belonging and inclusion in the workplace.
Laura is thrilled to serve as the executive sponsor of RAIN and looks forward to getting to meet RAIN’s membership and advocate for RAIN’s issues across state government.
