Building Narrative Power: Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon
Who are your favorite Asian American, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander advocates? Writers? Professors? Community leaders?
Now… do they have a Wikipedia page? Unfortunately, in most cases, the answer is no. This is a problem, since Wikipedia serves as a key marker of community recognition, among journalists, funders, and various institution leaders.
During AANHPI Heritage Month this May, we are determined to change that dynamic. AAPI Data is proud to launch their inaugural AANHPI Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon for the month of May as part of AANHPI Heritage Month.
The goal is to build greater narrative power and increase representation and recognition of AANHPI leaders, accomplishments, and contributions to society.
Interested in participating? Sign up today at bit.ly/aapi-wiki-edit-a-thon or click the button below. The first info session is Friday. May 3 at 12 noon PT!

The Washington State Historical Society is hosting the 7th Annual Japanese American Day of Remembrance and has a permanent virtual tour/exhibition on their events page.
When: May 16, 2024 from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Cost: Free
Where: Washington State Historical Society, 1911 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98402
Join the 7th Annual Japanese American Day of Remembrance at the Washington State History Museum. This event commemorates Tacoma’s Japanese Americans’ eviction during World War II and places this event within a larger context.
This community event will open with a resource fair attended by over a dozen organizations helping preserve Japanese-American history in Washington. During the fair, artists Yoshi Nakagawa and Yuka Petz will conduct an interactive activity for guests to take home commemorative prints.
The resource fair will be followed by live traditional music performances by Fuji Taiko and Kabuki Academy. Guests can tour the newly updated “Remembrance” exhibition before a brief procession to Union Station to remember the Japanese American community that was forcibly removed from this site.
The program will conclude with a “Scholarly Selections” panel discussion titled “Making the Invisible Visible: ‘Righting’ Asian American and Pacific Islander Histories,” moderated by public historian Tamiko Nimura.
