National Trans Survey Preliminary Findings Released
Earlier this month, the U.S. Trans Survey (USTS) released their Early Insights Report, detailing some of the key early findings from their 2022 U.S. Trans Survey, the largest survey of transgender people in America. 90,000+ people participated in the survey, which was available from October 19th to December 5th, 2022 - a dramatic increase from 27,000+ taking the last USTS in 2015. The survey was conducted by the National Center for Transgender Equality in partnership with the TransLatin@ Coalition, the National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition (BTAC), and the National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA), in collaboration with transgender research experts involved in the USTS Scientific Advisory Council and Outreach Council partners.
The Early Insights Report reveals significant findings about the U.S. transgender and nonbinary population. The USTS asked respondents about a variety of topics and issues important to the transgender and nonbinary community including their experiences with health care and health care providers, family life, income and employment experiences, housing stability, restrooms, harassment and discrimination, law enforcement, identification documents, and more. 94% of survey respondents “who lived at least some of the time in a different gender than the one they were assigned at birth” reported they were either “a lot more satisfied” (79%) or “a little more satisfied” (15%) with their life. You can view the full Early Insights Report here and learn more about the U.S. Trans Survey on their website.

Washington State Comprehensive LGBTQ Survey
As national organizations gather more and more information to help advocate for our community, the Washington State LGBTQ Commission is also committed to learning more about our 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in Washington through data. The Washington State LGBTQ Commission is excited to be working with Washington State University on a Comprehensive LGBTQ Survey of Washington State, the first of its kind. We have held several meetings with the survey team already, and our teams couldn’t be more excited to work with each other to develop this important tool to understand our community. The survey team has been hard at work developing the survey and brainstorming outreach strategies to reach as many 2SLGBTQIA Washingtonians as we can, and we look forward to collaborating with partners to expand our reach! If you work with an organization that serves 2SLGBTQIA Washingtonians and want to be involved in survey outreach, please reach out to our Program Manager, Sam Fennell – Samuel.Fennell@lgbtq.wa.gov. More information regarding the Washington Comprehensive LGBTQ Survey, including a link to take the survey, coming early summer 2024!
