Gov. Jay Inslee issued an emergency proclamation today, proclaiming a State of Emergency related to multiple wildfires burning throughout the state of Washington.
Washington currently has significant and dangerous fires burning throughout the state, creating a need for all necessary firefighting resources to be readily available. Two large wildfires burning in Medical Lake and Elk have burned over 10,000 acres in the last 24 hours and prompted evacuations in Spokane County.
The Washington Military Department has activated the State Emergency Operations Center, implemented response procedures, and is coordinating resources to support state and local officials to alleviate the immediate social and economic impacts to people, property, and infrastructure. The Military Department continues to assess the wildfire danger resulting from existing high-risk weather and fire fuel conditions.
State agencies and departments are directed to utilize state resources and to do everything reasonably possible to assist affected political subdivisions in an effort to respond to the ongoing wildfires. The Emergency Managment Division of the Military Department has been instructed to coordinate all event-related assistance to the affected areas.
