Joint Statement with ADL Pacific Northwest, Rainbow Center, and Gender Justice League
We Condemn the recent assault on a transgender student at Kalama High School in Kalama, WA. Across the country, the trans community, particularly transgender children, are being targeted by exclusionary and hateful legislation and this is one disturbing example of how rhetoric and bias can escalate into violence.
Now is the time for us to stand up against hate, bigotry, and violence. We applaud the Kalama students who staged a walk-out in support of their classmate and we urge the Kalama School District to take further action to protect transgender students and ensure that the District is a safe, inclusive place for all. We stand by ready to be a resource to the school, students, and faculty.
Joint statement from ADL Pacific Northwest, Rainbow Center, The Washington State LGBTQ Commission, and Gender Justice League.
