Notice of Committee Passage of Senate Bill 5447

SB 5447, titled AN ACT Relating to extending the dairy milk assessment fee to June 30, 2025, has been passed by the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water, Natural Resources & Parks. The Office of Financial Management has identified this bill as requiring a ten-year projection of increased cost to the taxpayers or affected fee payers.

Ten-year projection:

Under current law an assessment is levied on all milk processed in the state not to exceed fifty-four one-hundredths of one cent per hundredweight. WSDA collects approximately $297,000 each year from this assessment. The assessment is set to expire June 30, 2020.

Senate Bill 5447 would extend the assessment for five more years, to June 30, 2025. We assume the amount of cash receipts will continue at the current level.
