Manufacturer guidance update: Washington's vehicle emissions standards
Ecology is extending its pause for portions of Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks in an update to its regulatory guidance.
In response to recent federal actions, Ecology paused portions of Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks, and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus implementation for six months starting on June 6, 2025. This update extends that pause through June 6, 2026.
Note that today's update maintains the original guidance's pause on Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus for all of model year 2026.
Ecology also finalized our rulemaking for amendments to Advanced Clean Trucks and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus today.
Developments at the federal level do not change Washington’s commitment to transitioning to cleaner vehicles. Our state has legal limits on greenhouse gas emissions between now and 2050 which cannot be met without addressing transportation — our biggest single source of greenhouse gas emissions. Governor Ferguson and Ecology recently announced ZEVergreen, an effort to drive continued adoption of affordable, clean transportation in Washington.
As a part of ZEVergreen, Ecology will work with partners and the State Legislature in advance of the 2026 legislative session on strategies that ensure the transportation sector stays on track to reduce their emissions.
