Wildcat Cove in Larrabee State Park, and Jack Hyde beach (Tacoma) now open for water recreation.
On August 8, 2025, Whatcom County Health and Community Services revised the swimming advisory for Wildcat Cove at Larrabee State Park in Whatcom County. The advisory had been in effect since July 25, 2025. New water samples show lower levels of fecal bacteria at the shoreline which reduces the risk to public health from water-borne pathogens. The beach is now open for water-contact recreation. Advisories at Little Squalicum remain in effect at this time.
On August 6, 2025, the water-contact advisory for Jack Hyde beach in Pierce County was lifted by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. The advisory had been in effect since June 18, 2025. New water samples showed lower levels of fecal bacteria which reduces the risk to public health from water-borne pathogens. The beach is now open for water-contact recreation.
Local health jurisdictions issue water-contact advisories or closures at swimming beaches. The BEACH Program helps to communicate these risks to the public.
