Beaches at the southern end of Boulevard Park, Whatcom County are now open for water recreation
On August 29, 2024, Whatcom County Health Department lifted the swimming advisory for Boulevard Park beach, near the Taylor Dock in Whatcom County. New water samples show lower levels of fecal bacteria along the shoreline and at the dock, which reduces the public health risk of illness from water-borne pathogens. The beach and dock are now open for water-contact recreation, but the outfall near Bennett Avenue still has high levels of fecal bacteria above the safe limit. Avoiding the beach area near the outfall is still advised.
Local health jurisdictions issue water-contact advisories or closures at swimming beaches. The BEACH Program helps to communicate these risks to the public.
